What is 100% organic cotton?

Organic cotton is cotton grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or insecticides. Before a farm can be certified organic, it must grow cotton organically for a minimum of three years to ensure that all traces of synthetic chemicals are removed from the soil and surrounding environment. Natural fertilizers and techniques are used instead, including compost, manure, crop rotation, and plant- or mineral-based nutrients. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers follow only approved natural methods and materials, in accordance with strictly enforced international standards.

Inside an adjacent family-run mill, the fibers travel only a few hundred meters before they are spun, woven, and finished. The facility runs primarily on rooftop solar, channels rainwater into production, and treats every drop of effluent before releasing it cleaner than it arrived. Nothing is wasted: waste yarn becomes insulation, cotton dust is pressed into stationery, and dye baths are closed-loop so pigments never reach the river.
